Alief Early College High School Students Spend a Day in the Life with SABIC

SABIC has been a steadfast partner to Junior Achievement and Houston area schools. Despite challenges presented by the pandemic, they remained enthusiastic about exploring ways to continue their partnership with Alief Early College High School through a program entitled “Day in the Life” as a compliment to the JA Career Speakers Series.

The lead company volunteer coordinators at SABIC, Ruth Rendon and Shelli Murray, engaged their team to help coordinate an outstanding group of volunteers who represented a wide range of roles within the company to make this program a total success! SABIC hosted multiple sessions as virtual volunteers, with approximately 200 Alief Early College High School students, that started in January and concluded this month. The unexpected freeze in February briefly threatened to derail the plan, but SABIC was undeterred in its commitment to the students and strategized to ensure their presentations were rescheduled.

Lanier Robertson, Human Resources Leader for SABIC Americas region, shared the following after serving as a volunteer, ““SABIC employees were delighted to participate in a Day in the Life series with Alief Early College High School and share career experiences with students this spring. Giving students a flavor of the opportunities available to them goes a long way especially for the students who will be the first in their family to attend college. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we were glad to partner with Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas and support Early College High School through this virtual outreach.”

Junior Achievement is honored to work with SABIC and incredibly thankful to the phenomenal volunteers who made a tremendous impact on the lives of students at Alief Early College High School. We truly appreciate the continued support and look forward to working with you again next school year!
